ERP for OCD

What is it?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold standard, evidence-based treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety, and related disorders. ERP is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that has been shown to be the most potent part of treatment for OCD.

Who can benefit?
Clients of any age suffering from anxiety disorders, and specifically from OCD, who are ready to tackle the things they fear in a structured and supported way, while simultaneously devoting less of their time to engaging in compulsive
behavior.

What can I expect?
ERP therapists work directly with clients to provide psycho education around the OCD and the function of their anxiety. Treatment starts with a thorough
assessment of intrusive and obsessive thoughts, feelings, sensations, and the compulsions (safety behaviors) that accompany them. After assessment the ERP therapist works with the client to identify exposure tasks to accomplish during treatment. Exposures involve intentionally making contact with situations that increase distress and are typically avoided or neutralized through the use of a
compulsion. These sessions are typically weekly, and duration of treatment varies significantly based on individual need, and duration and severity of illness.
